During your French Language Immersion stay in the South of France you will of course study French and improve your language level daily, but you will most of all have the chance to discover beautiful French regions by going on excursion organised by our French Language School. What can be better than a trip to discover the Camargue to start off with?
When you cross the gates into Carmargue by private bus during our excursion, a magical world will open to you with very particular landscapes that you will not see elsewhere else. Your journey will start at Aigues Mortes, a former medieval royal city built according to the will of Saint Louis, 5 minutes from the wonderful Mediterranean beaches!
Visit during your French immersion in Montpellier the charming Camargue with the pink flamingos, the wild horses and the biosphere classified as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Aigues Mortes, entirely surrounded by ramparts, has a very typical architecture that confers its uniqueness, especially with the huge Tower of Constance from which one could control the assault of its enemies. The history of this city will be explained to you throughout the visit of the village, and you will then have the pleasure to freely discover Aigues Mortes and its small lanes during the lunch break, while tasting local products from the South of France such as Fougasse.
When leaving Aigues Mortes for Saintes Maries de la Mer you will have the chance to admire the Camargue salt mountains from the bus, as well as wild pink flamingos!
Saintes Maries de la Mer, the capital of the Camargue, is a small village full of charm, with very specific fauna and flora; in fact the bulls and the horses have remained the unavoidable hosts of these lands for decades, and benefit to the cultural tourism of this part of the South of France. The bull is the real attraction with the Course Camarguaise, a very ancient tradition from this region. The Camargue horses are used in lead the herds of bulls into the swamps. They are also used to back horse riding tours in the Camargue countryside.
At Saintes Maries de la Mer you will have the time to properly immerse into the typical of the South of France atmosphere, and you will be able to stroll around the streets of the village during your free time. You can also enjoy the beach, by foot, or by renting a bike to the seaside. If you decide to add the horseback ride option to the Camargue excursion, you will get to discover more closely the natural Camargue for one hour of horse riding in an authentic setting on the edge of the pond of Vaccarès (beginners are of course welcome).
