Muscat is particularly popular in the South of France during the Summer and are mostly served before dinner or with dessert. Although it should be noted that people do also drink Muscat with “Foie gras” at Christmas. During the workshop at our French language school in Montpellier, you will have the chance to taste 4 different varieties of this type of French wine: “le muscat de Lunel” with some delicious “foie gras” that we are mad about in France, then it will be time for the “muscat de Frontignan” served with some very famous goat’s cheese, “le Pélardon”, which is very typical of the Montpellier region.
After this, you will have the chance to taste “muscat de Rivesaltes” with its famous “macaron”, (sweet biscuits made with almond paste), something that has been deeply rooted into French culture for several years now. You will finish off with a splash of “Banyuls” red wine, naturally mild wine which comes from old vines cultivated on terraces on the slopes of the Catalan Pyrenees, in the Roussillon countryside of France (AOC production area that is limited to 4 communes). It has a scent and taste of cooked fruit, prunes and roasted coffee coupled wonderfully with chocolate; a pure delight!
Our region produces a lot of wine with characteristics that are typical of the South of France; sunny wine with summer fragrance! Moreover, our French school in Montpellier regularly organises ‘wine tours’ and ‘wine cellar visits’ in the vineyards of the region and this is without a doubt one of our cultural activities that the students like best to experience cultural tourism.
